Position Summary:
Bakery Associate is typically the first point of contact for a customer at the bakery.
Must ensure the customer’s first impression is that of a friendly, welcoming establishment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Greet customers in a pleasant and helpful manner
• Must be aware and adhere to ServSafe food safety practices at all times
• Consistently keep a clean and safe environment by adhering to all federal, state, and local sanitation and safety requirements on a daily basis
• Respond immediately to spills and maintain a clean workspace
• Quickly determine and respond to customer needs and inquiries in a thorough and professional manner
• Answer questions about food ingredients, cake designs and baked goods
• Accurately and efficiently complete customer cake orders with decorations, special requests, bulk orders, and prepare all orders for pick up
• Refer wedding cake or extremely large orders to appropriate production or management team member
• Accurately and efficiently obtain correct customer information, asking clarifying questions and, ensure information is communicated promptly to all appropriate team members
• Quickly and courteously resolve guest concerns and complaints, or refer to appropriate member of management team
• Establish and maintain open and collaborative relationships with all team members, including bakery, production, logistics, office and retail areas; display positive and friendly attitude towards customers and team members
• Set up and perform initial prep work for food case items
• Inspect products for freshness, stock and rotate bakery goods daily
• Ensure bakery trays and showcases are filled and arranged in an attractive manner; advise appropriate team members of any items that are low in display case
• Communicate to every customer at every transaction additional services and products
• Maintain a professional appearance at all times, and practice excellent personal hygiene
• Adheres to all policies and procedures as outlined in Serpe’s Employee Handbook
• Perform all other duties as assigned
• Follows time reporting system for hours worked
• Operate Clover Point of Sale (POS) system efficiently for orders and transactions
Required Skills and Abilities:
• Possess the technical ability necessary to learn and operate POS machine
• Must have the desire to work with the public
• Must be able to endure long hours of standing and walking
• Must be able to lift 35lbs regularly, and up to 50 lbs occassionally
• Have excellent communication skills
Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma/GED preferred unless currently attending school
• Previous retail experience is preferred
• Previous bakery experience is a plus
