Kitchen Assistant for a church-owned camp/conference center.

We need a pool of mature, self-motivated, responsible adults who understand and can perform duties required for foodservice operations, cleaning/custodial operations, and minor facilities maintenance during the 2022 Church Camp and Group Retreat season.

A major part of the job is to prepare and help cook healthy meals for 20-80 guests with the guidance and assistance of Conference Center Cooks.

Familiarity with Food preparation, Food safety, Foodservice equipment, and basic cooking processes is necessary; prior foodservice or hotel experience is preferred.

Other duties include, but are not limited to, assisting in inventory control, performing kitchen/pantry/dining area cleaning and sanitation, operation of a commercial dishwasher, re-stocking dishes, food, & supplies, transfer of supplies from delivery door to storage racks, and assisting in the maintenance and routine custodial tasks in the Center’s facilities.  Cleaning of the dining area, food preparation area, public areas, and all guest facilities is included in this position.

The staff are expected to work together as a team, learn from each other, teach each other, respect each other, and, finally, to obey all Food Safety and Health Department regulations.

The job site is the Christian Church Conference Center, owned/operated by the Christian Church Capital Area, which is located in downtown Bethany Beach, Delaware.  There are three guest dormitory buildings and a separate Dining Hall/Commercial Kitchen building.

Staff are needed on a part-time basis from mid-May through October.  The hours per week are 24-32 hours – roughly three to four days per week.

Typical work shifts will be from 6~6:30 am-to-2~2:30 pm, 11~11:30 am-to-7~7:30 pm, or 2:30 pm-to-8:30 pm on a rotating basis for set-up of facilities btw groups, retreat food service operations, and post-retreat clean-up of the dining hall building and guest rooms/common areas in the other buildings.  Number of guests per meal varies with the size of the group.

Compensation includes Salary and meals when scheduled to work when meals are being prepared for Campers/Retreat Guests.
