The Kitchen Program Manager is responsible for managing all office and facility operations with the shared use commercial kitchen and business incubator. The incumbent manages the administration and operation of the Sussex County’s kitchen facility, including but not limited to, managing the inventory of kitchen and cleaning supplies, scheduling equipment repairs and maintenance, scheduling of tenant shifts, instruction of tenants on how to properly and safely use the kitchen equipment, enforcement of sanitary food handling methods and of kitchen use policies and procedures as well as all office and facility needs. This position is responsible for maintaining careful records in respect to events and fundraising/sponsorships. This position reports directly to the Sussex County Economic Development Director.


Program Planning and Execution

Works with all staff to prepare the annual program calendar as well as a budget for Sussex County’s programs including kitchen reservations, cooking classes, and other smaller events such as workshops and teambuilding events, etc.; assists food entrepreneurs in becoming economically self-sufficient; manages all sponsor relationships, ensuring budget targets are reached; responsible for overlooking the budget expenditure and keeping it in check; reports on successes/failures of all events in terms of attendance goals, budget goals, etc.; manages overall timeline and committees for all large events from planning through event execution to follow up; responsible for the administrative tasks associated with operating the incubation program, such as recruiting, marketing, training to incubation members; determines roles of other staff and volunteers as necessary and communicates clearly around expectations; leads committees, volunteers, and other staff as well as participant businesses; coordinates marketing and communications from social media (all forms) to printed collateral; provides Sussex County presence at partner events; performs other duties as assigned.

Facility Operation and Maintenance

Responsible for operation and management of all equipment, facility, utility, and general kitchen use; adheres to all city, state, and federal requirements for commercial kitchen facilities; manages relationships between all service providers and contractors involved in the facility and facility maintenance; manages and oversees janitorial staff and independent contractors; manages keycard system and access to building; responsible for training all users of the facility on operation, safety, and maintenance; responsible for billing and maintaining client records; stays within budget for all kitchen and facility-related expenses; performs other duties as assigned.


Extensive knowledge of food chemistry and food science; ability to communicate personally and intimately with the program participants as well as an innate understating or willingness to learn the regional food scene; ability to develop and deliver the services required to support the business in the incubation program; ability to stay calm during emergencies, unexpected changes to event flow, etc.; highly organized with excellent time and space management skills; ability to work under pressure, coordinating large numbers of people with grace and ease; ability to manage planning of multiple events at once as well as multiple tasks at once during events; self-starter; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of other agencies, staff, department heads, elected officials and the general public.


Bachelor of Science in Food Science, Culinary Arts, or related fields and/or extensive management experience with a minimum of five (5) years in the Food Science or Culinary related field where these skills have been obtained; ability to complete required job-related certifications within six (6) months of being hired; excellent verbal and written communications skills; excellent customer service and organizational skills; good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and all platforms of social media.
