DRA Supports Senator Carper’s Federal LEAN Act
Is Menu Labeling in Delaware on the Horizon?
During a DRA-sponsored press conference last month in Dover, Senator Tom Carper together with representatives from the National Restaurant Association and the Delaware Restaurant Association announced the introduction of the LEAN (Labeling Education And Nutrition) Act.
Carper announced his legislation at a local Buffalo Wild Wings franchise to showcase a bipartisan effort aimed at providing nutrition and calorie information for multi -unit restaurants with 20 or more locations.
“Federal Legislation works to give consumers the information that they are asking for to make important decisions while dining out,†said Carrie Leishman, DRA President/CEO. “We have seen an eruption of municipal and state laws dealing with menu labeling, which doesn’t make sense to companies that have locations in multiple states. We applaud Senator Carper’s willingness to work with all sides on this very important issue.â€
Although menu labeling in Delaware has not been introduced, there is pressure to introduce a bill that would undermine Senator Carper’s LEAN Act. Senator Dave Sokola (D-Newark) supports the debate to bring menu labeling to Delaware.
Call Senator Sokola today and urge him to introduce a resolution to support the Federal LEAN Act instead of state bill.
